Victoria Sherry Balamaci
BRIDGEPORT – Victoria Shery Balamaci, 88, wife of the late George Z. Balamaci, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2011, at St. Vincent’s Medical Center.
Born in Bridgeport, the daughter of the late Dimitri and Vasila Chepa Shery, she had been a Bridgeport resident all her life.
She retired from the Bryant Electric Company after over 35 years of service. She was a devoted lifelong member of St. Dimitrie Romanian Orthodox Church, where she was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary and Retirees Club. Mrs. Balamaci had especially enjoyed serving as a church school teacher to the young children of her parish. She was a talented portrait painter and for many years shared the beauty of her extensive rose garden with her family and friends. Above all, she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Survivors include her daughters, Carol Assenza and her husband, George, of Woodbury, and Deanna Olow of Las Vegas; and a son, William D. Balamaci and his wife, Evelyn, of Milford. She leaves behind her sister, Olympia Malisory of Trumbull; a brother, Peter Shery and his wife, Victoria, of Orange; six grandchildren, a great-grandchild, five nieces and four nephews.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday directly at St. Dimitrie Romanian Orthodox Church, 504 Sport Hill Road, Easton, with burial to follow in Lakeview Cemetery. Calling hours will be held 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Lesko & Polke Funeral Home, 1209 Post Road, Fairfield Center. The trisagion service will be held at 6:30 p.m.
