Flora Andry Soter of Springfield, beloved mother and grandmother, had a Blessed passing on Orthodox Easter Sunday, May 1, 2016 at the age of 92. She was surrounded by her loving family and passed away peacefully into the presence of Our Lord and Savior.

She was born on July 12, 1923 in Woonsocket, RI to the late Christi and Mary (Talabac) Andry and resided in Rhode Island until her marriage. She lived in Auburn, MA. for many years with her husband and daughters until moving to Springfield, MA. in 1992 to reside with her daughter, husband, and grandsons.

Flora was predeceased by her beloved husband, Nicholas Soter and cherished daughters, Marianne Lee Soter and twin girls Linda Marie and Flora Marie Soter. She is also predeceased by her loving brother Theodore Andry and his wife Eleanor Andry.

She is survived by her loving daughter Roxanne and husband Stephen Maki of Springfield and most cherished grandsons Nicholas and his wife Kathryn of New York, New York and Alexander Maki of Providence, Rhode Island.

She is also survived by her sisters Elizabeth Shola and Andronica Kressu of Stratford, CT. and brother Andrew Andry of Long Island, New York, her godchildren Nicholas Soter, Anthony Soter and Karen (Soter) Maietto as well as many loving cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Special thanks to her “ Lobstah Fest” family who loved and gave her much enjoyment for many years. Flora graduated from Woonsocket High School in Rhode Island and spent many years in retail sales. She owned and operated a family restaurant with her husband and family for several years. After selling the business, Flora, being the “ fashionista” she was known for, returned to retail sales until moving to Springfield.

Flora came from generations of tailors and expert weavers and was blessed to be given the talent as well. She did everything from taking basic patterns and changing them to make new designs, embroidered all her sheets/cases for her hope chest, made all her daughters dance costumes, designed and sewed her curtains to taking apart or adding to her clothing either for size purposes or to make them more up to date.

Flora loved music, flowers and enjoyed dancing with her husband back in the day. Her greatest enjoyment was having the gift of watching her grandsons grow into young men. She was able to see their first steps, enjoy attending all their activities, and experienced all the milestones of their lives.

We are blessed as a family to have shared all of this with her. Flora was a faithful woman with such style and grace and displayed never ending courage and strength over her lifetime. She was an inspiration not only to her family but to all who knew her. The family would like to give special thanks to all who cared for her over the past few years and to the Philoptochos Society of St. Luke who regularly visited, bringing plants and treats which brought her so much enjoyment.
