    Elena Vasilescu Balamaci, age 85, of Bridgeport, wife of the late Peter Balamaci, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 30, 2013 with her loving family by her side.

    Born in New York City, May 23, 1927, daughter of the late Fr. Hrista and Santa Sota Vasilescu, Elena moved to Bridgeport as a young girl and remained a lifelong city resident.

    She had worked as an executive assistant for the Perkin Elmer Co. and later for Brooks Publishing until her retirement.

    Elena was a longtime member of St. Dimitrie Romanian Orthodox Church and was a past treasurer for the St. Dimitrie Seniors Group. Elena also began a women’s stock group called the ” Lajems “. She was an avid New York Yankees fan and enjoyed bowling. She was an active and fun lady who had wonderful sense of humor.

    A loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, Elena will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She is survived by her son, Nicholas Balamaci and his wife Mari of Lyndhurst, NJ, daughters Stella Balamaci of Fairfield and Cristine Balamaci of Shelton. Mia leaves behind her grandchildren, Ryan Balamaci, Erica Boanno and her husband Dominick and Kara Fritz, great-grandchildren Nicholas, Ava and Taylor Boanno as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers Spiro and John Vasilescu and a sister Marie Janello.

    Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11am DIRECTLY at St. Dimitrie Romanian Orthodox Church, 504 Sport Hill Rd., Easton with burial to follow in Lakeview Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Friday from 4-8pm in the Lesko & Polke Funeral Home, 1209 post Rd., Fairfield Center with the Trisagion Service at 6pm.

    Memorial contributions may be made to St. Dimitrie Church.
