    Robert Louis Cipu, age 61, of Southport, beloved husband of Mary Elizabeth (Betsy) Wood Cipu, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 7, 2008 at St. Vincent Medical Center. In addition to his devoted wife of 30 years, Bob is loved and will be remembered by his family including three children, Scott Cipu, of Brooklyn, N.Y., Heather Cipu, of Washington, D.C., Ashley Cipu, of Stamford; his parents, Nicholas and Despa Costulas Cipu, of Fairfield; his parents-in-law, Dr. David and Esther Wood, of Rocky River, Ohio; two sisters, Marie Agostin, and her husband, Dominick, of Wilton, Elaine Turek, and her husband, Richard, of Wallingford; one sister-in-law, Joyce Perkins, and her husband, Robert, of Richmond, VA.; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

    Born in New York City, Bob had been a resident of Bridgeport and Fairfield for many years, recently moving to Southport. He graduated from Bassick High School in 1964 and attended University of Connecticut, where he received his Bachelor degree in English. He continued his studies obtaining his Masters degree from Cleveland State University, and finished his Sixth year degree at Southern Connecticut State University. He was a retired High School teacher for the City of Bridgeport.

    A person of strong faith, Bob was an active member of St. Dimitrie Romanian Orthodox Church, where he participated in the Choir and served on the Parish Council. He was a past President of the National A.R.O.Y., and coached basketball at both his high school and church. A wonderful communicator, Bob enjoyed connecting with people, always striving to make a person feel welcome.

    Calling hours will be held on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Lesko & Polke Funeral Home, 1209 Post Road, in Fairfield Center. The Trisagion service will be conducted at 7 p.m. (Until the permanent Post Road driveway and signage is completed, please access the new funeral home via the Brick Walk or Patriot Plaza driveways). His funeral service will be held on Saturday at 10 a.m. in Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 4070 Park Avenue, Bridgeport. (due to construction of the new St. Dimitrie Church of Easton). Burial will follow in Lakeview Cemetery.
