    Nicholas Louis Cipu, age 97, of Fairfield, beloved husband of The late Despa Costulas Cipu, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, October 8, 2013 with his loving family by his side.

    Born in Korce, Albania, Nick came to the United States as a child and grew up in New York City, he later moved to Bridgeport and was a Fairfield Town resident for over 45 years. He was a proud Veteran of WWII, serving in the 88th Division as an Army Staff Sergeant, seeing combat duty in Italy where he was wounded, receiving the Purple Heart.

    Nick later opened Cipu Jewelers of Bridgeport and later worked for the Perkin Elmer Co and Avco Lycoming.

    He was a longtime member of St. Dimitrie Romanian Orthodox Church and served as President of the Parish Council, Superintendent of the Sunday School as well as a member of the Society Farsarotul, the Church Building Fund and Retirees Group. He also belonged to the American Legion Lt. Owen Fish Post. He was also an avid New York Yankees fan.

    Nick will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Just as St. Nicholas, he was especially loved by all children who ever met him.

    He is survived by his daughters, Marie Agostin and her husband Dominick of Wilton and Elaine Turek and her husband Richard of Wallingford, a daughter in law Betsy Cipu, grandchildren Michael Agostin and his wife Anne, Jeffrey Agostin and his wife Maryann, Kevin Agostin and his wife Gabriela, Jennifer Turek Vissicchio and her husband Nick, Matthew Turek, Scott Cipu and his fiancee Sheena, Heather and Ashley Cipu and great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Sarah, Abigail, Samantha, Emily and Elena Agostin. Nick leaves behind his sister Florence Carabina and her husband Chris, a sister in law Julia Cipu, a brother in law Peter Costulas and his wife Florence as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son, Robert Cipu, his ” Frate ” George Cipu, sister Sophie Cipu Nastu and her husband Ray and sister in law Ellen Andry and her husband Ted.

    Funeral Services will be held on Friday at 11:30am DIRECTLY at St. Dimitrie Romanian Orthodox Church, 504 Sport Hill Rd., Easton, Ct with burial to follow in Lakeview Cemetery, Bridgeport with full Military Honors. Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 4-8pm in the Lesko & Polke Funeral Home, 1209 Post Rd., Fairfield Center with the Trisagion Service at 6:30pm.
