Mark Carabina
Mark Richard Carabina, age 59, of Fairfield, beloved son of Florence Cipu Carabina and the late Christy Carabina, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 21, 2023.
Mark was born and raised in Bridgeport and later had been a Fairfield Town resident for most of his life.
Mark had attended Sacred Heart University and later graduated from Housatonic Community College, ” Class of 1988 “.He held the position of document examiner for the State of Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicles until his retirement.
Mark was a lifelong avid sports enthusiast who loved all sports. Mark enjoyed playing golf; in college, while attending Sacred Heart University, he played for the College’s Golf Team and later enjoyed playing with family and friends on courses at Fairchild Wheeler in Bridgeport/Fairfield, as well as the Raceway Golf Club in Thompson, CT. Mark loved his New England sports; he was a big fan of the Boston Red Sox and the great Boston Celtics, where he once served as a ballboy at the Hartford Civic Center. In his younger years, Mark used to attend the Stock Car Races at Thompson and Stafford Motor Speedways, where he would support his close friend, the late George Greco Jr.
Mark was a lifelong member of St. Dimitrie Orthodox Church; he was a member of the Parish Council and held the position of Head Epitrope (Greeter). He was always a willing volunteer for the church Festivals and will be fondly remembered for his warm, welcoming smile and friendly conversation. Mark’s family would like to thank everyone in the St. Dimitrie community who have offered countless prayers and support during Mark’s illness.
A loving son, brother and friend. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. In addition to his loving mother, Florence, Mark leaves behind his brother, Matthew Carabina of Fairfield, his aunts Rita Carabina of North Grosvenordale, CT and Julie Cipu of North Branford, an uncle, George Carabina and his wife, Deborah of Woodstock, CT., a Goddaughter Meghan Carabina Curtis and her husband Don of Storrs, CT and a special cousin, Tony Carabina, as well as many cousins and close friends. In addition to his dad, Christy, Mark was predeceased by his twin infant brothers, Luke and John, grandparents Antonio and Costa Carabina, Maria and Louis Cipu, uncles Nick and George Cipu, aunts Despa Cipu, Sophia Nastu and husband Ray and his cousin, Bobby Cipu.Funeral services will take place on Wednesday, December 27, at 11:30 a.m. directly at St. Dimitrie Orthodox Church, 504 Sport Hill Rd., Easton, with the Rev. Fr. George Coca officiating. Mark’s family will receive family and friends on Wednesday at Church from 10 a.m. until the time of service. His burial will follow at the Lawncroft Cemetery on Black Rock Turnpike Fairfield. The Frank Polke & Son Funeral Home of Fairfield is in care of all arrangements. I
