    James Babiana, 77, of Bellingham, MA died peacefully on Wednesday, December 18, 2013. James was diagnosed only eight weeks ago with Pancreatic Cancer. He leaves his beloved wife Irene (Purich) of 50 years and his son Christopher both of Bellingham.

    Born in Woonsocket, RI, he was the son of the late George and Mary (Andry) Babiana. He wes predeceased by his sister Sylvia Fatse of Easton, CT., and most recently his twin sister Virginia Baker of Lincoln, RI.
    James also leaves his three sisters, Victoria Chiacu and Stella Babiana of Woonsocket, RI and Florence Costulas along with Peter Costulas his brother-in-law whom he always affectionately referred to Jim as his younger brother. Also, brother Andrew Babiana and wife Rachel of Lincoln, RI, along with several loving and compassionate nieces and nephews. He will be deeply missed by his most dear friends Robert, Kathy and Krystle Poirier of Woonsocket, RI.

    For those who knew him well, Jim and his dog Kayden were inseparable buddies. They were seen by many in town going on daily trips together in Jim’s pick-up truck. Kayden is lost without him.

    Jim was employed by John Hancock Insurance Company for several years, and later opened his own business along with his wife by his side call The Shoe Den in Bellingham, MA. The Shoe Den was open for twenty four years until Jim’s retirement.

    He was a member of St. John the Baptist Romanian Orthodox Church. He held many positions supporting the church including being a choir member, President of the parish council and co-chairman of the 75th and 100th anniversary of the founding of the church.

    Funeral will be held on Monday, December 23rd at 10AM from CARTIER’S FUNERAL HOME, 1561 So. Main St. (Rte 126), Bellingham, MA with a Funeral Service at 11AM at St. John’s Romanian Orthodox Church, 501 East School St., Woonsocket, RI. Interment will follow at Resurrections Cemetery, West Wrentham Rd., Cumberland, RI. Visiting hours are on Sunday, December 22nd from 5 to 8PM with a Wake Service at 7:30PM at the funeral home. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
