George S. Yanka
SOUTHBRIDGE – George S. Yanka, 48, of 127 Chestnut St., a high- school monitor and a YMCA coach, died Sunday, Nov. 7 in Harrington Memorial Hospital after he was stricken ill at a family gathering.
He leaves a son, Stavri Yanka; a daughter, Alexandria Yanka, both of Ludlow; his mother, Alexandria (Sholla) Yanka of Southbridge; two sisters, Audrey Fatsi of Trumbull, Conn., and Beatrice Neal of Warwick, R.I.; nephews and nieces. He was born in Southbridge, son of Stavri B. Yanka.
He was a monitor at Southbridge High School.
He was a member of St. Michael’s Romanian Orthodox Church, its parish council and the Farsarotul Society. He was a coach in the Tri- Community YMCA youth basketball program.
The funeral will be held Wednesday, Nov. 10 from Daniel T. Morrill Funeral Home, 130 Hamilton St., with a service at 1 p.m. in St. Michael’s Romanian Orthodox Church, Romanian Avenue. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery. Calling hours are 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 9 at the funeral home.
