Eleftheria Zisimanou Fatsi
Eleftheria Fatsi
June 6, 1942 ~ October 4, 2024 (age 82)
It is with profound sadness that the family of Eleftheria (Terri) Zisimanou Fatsi of Fairfield, Connecticut announces her passing on October 4, after a resolute struggle with ALS. She was 82 years old.
She was predeceased by her husband, the late George V. Fatsi and will be lovingly remembered by her children Michael (Polly) Fatsi, of Richmond, Virginia, James (Ann) Fatsi of Greenwich, and Thalia (Chris) Tobin, of Darnestown, Maryland, as well as 5 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren. She will also be remembered by her remaining sisters Mary (Stavros) Platitsas, of Seli, Greece, Zoe Zisimanou of Athens, Greece, as well as sister-in-law Sophie Cashavelly of Trumbull, Connecticut, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Eleftheria was born June 6, 1942 in Naoussa, Greece during World War II to the late Antonios and Efraxutha Zisimanou. She fell in love and married her husband George after a brief courtship while he was visiting Greece. Eleftheria wed George and emigrated to the US in 1963.
She will always be remembered as Yiayia, even to the neighborhood children, as Yiayia would regularly hand out homemade cookies. Her greatest pleasure was cooking and feeding any visitor who showed up at her door. Loved by everyone, she had a rare gift for connecting with people and maintaining lifelong friendships. Whether through her professional experiences, community involvement, or while out on a walk, Eleftheria made friends wherever she went.
Eleftheria spent many years in retail at G. Fox/Filene’s Department Store where her warmth and style touched the lives of countless customers and colleagues. In her retirement, Eleftheria dedicated numerous hours volunteering for a wide range of local organizations such as The Quick Center for the Arts, Town of Fairfield Poll Worker, and CERT. She was a very active parish member of both St. Dimitrie Romanian Orthodox Church in Easton and Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Bridgeport. Throughout the years, she was a member and past president of the Ladies Auxiliary, served on many committees, taught Greek school, coached CEOVL Volleyball, organized the annual decorating of the Epitafio, and started the Galaktoboureko tradition for the St. Dimitrie festival. Her selflessness and passion for helping others touched the lives of many, leaving an enduring legacy of compassion and generosity.
Yiayia will be deeply missed, but her remarkable contributions and loving spirit will remain in our hearts forever.
May her memory be eternal.
