Dimitrula Balamaci Rich
Dimitrula Balamaci Rich (Trulie) passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 24, 2017 at St. Vincent’s Medical Center with her loving family by her side.
Trulie was born in Bridgeport on October 7, 1926 to Dimitrie and Vasilichia (Cipu) Balamaci. Sadly, Trulie’s father passed away before her birth and then the family moved to New York to live with Trulie’s mother’s brother and family. Later, they moved to Woonsocket, RI when Trulie’s mother remarried to Dionisi Teja.
She graduated from Woonsocket H.S. in 1944 and after working in Woonsocket, she later moved with her family to Bridgeport. Shortly after, she became employed with Sikorsky Aircraft in their Manufacturing Engineering Dept. where she met her husband, Charlie Rich. Trulie and Charlie were married in September, 1960 and Trulie worked there until she had her children, Lori and Charles. Trulie was a devoted and loving wife and mother who cherished her family.
After her children were grown, she became employed at Van Doren Convalescent Home (Ludlowe) as a Rehabilitation Aide which she enjoyed doing until her retirement.
After retiring, she and Charlie had a GREAT retirement which included spending a portion of the winter months in Vero Beach, FL until Charlie’s passing in 2010. Trulie was also blessed with two grandchildren, N.J. and Stephanie Appelberg who gave her much joy and happiness.
Trulie was a member of St. Dimitrie Romanian Orthodox Church. She was predeceased by her parents, and stepfather, husband Charlie, brother Dennis and first cousins, Sophie Nastu, Nick and George Cipu. Trulie is survived and will be sadly missed by her two beloved children, Lori Appelberg and her husband Neil of Monroe, and Charles M. Rich of Bridgeport, her two grandchildren Neil Jr and Stephanie Appelberg of Monroe, sister in law Sina Balamaci and her children, (Trulie’s nieces and nephews): Marilyn, Jim, Caryn, Dean and families, first cousin, Florence (Cipu) Carabina and husband Chris. Also, Val Teja, cousins, friends, her hairdresser Barbara Dokla and her wonderful neighbors, especially, Stacie Giatas and family and The Goldsmith family.
We would like to thank St. Vincent’s Medical Center and Jewish Senior Services for their compassionate care.
