Betty Cashavelly Balamaci
Betty Cashavelly Balamaci, beloved wife of the late Thomas Balamaci, passed away on August 10, 2014 at St. Vincent’s Medical Center.
Born in 1920 in Blackstone, Massachusetts, to the late George and Sophie Cashavelly, she was a Fairfield resident for over fifty years. She was a graduate of Bassick High School, Class of 1937, and a member of the National Honor Society. Betty was a legal secretary in the Office of the City Attorney of Bridgeport for several years. She was a long time member of the St. Dimitrie Romanian Orthodox Church and the St. Dimitrie Ladies’ Auxiliary. She enjoyed gardening and traveling with her family. She was also a volunteer for several organizations.
Betty will be lovingly remembered as a gentle woman who lived her life with quiet dignity and integrity. In addition to her husband of sixty-seven years, she was predeceased by her cherished son, John, and sisters, Mary Bickey, Alice Bullard, Leona Pandaru, Elizabeth Geambazi, and Constance Cashavelly. Survivors include her devoted daughter, sisters, Margaret Gell and Catherine Broadbin; a brother, Christy Cashavelly, and his wife, Cynthia; sister-in-law, Gertrude Balamaci; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 13, 2014 at 11 AM in St. Dimitrie Romanian Orthodox Church, 504 Sport Hill Road, Easton, CT 06612. Interment will follow at Lakeview Cemetery, Bridgeport.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday (TODAY), August 12, 2014 from 4-7 PM at the Lesko & Polke Funeral Home, 1209 Post Road, in Fairfield Center, with a Trisagion service taking place at 6 PM.
