Sam Chiacu
Sam Chiacu, age 96, of Bridgeport, beloved husband of Mary Rutcha Chiacu, passed away on Thursday, March 5, 2020.
Sam was born and raised in Korce, Albania, son of the late Vasil and Maria Culetsu Chiacu at age 10 he immigrated to New York , a place that he always loved. In 1958 the family moved to Norwalk where he had lived for most of his life before moving to Bridgeport over 20 years ago. He was a WWII Veteran serving his country in the US Army. Sam was the owner of his company, C & C Appliance Service where he worked until his retirement. Mr. Chiacu was a longtime member of St. Dimitrie Orthodox Church where he served as the Parish Council Treasurer, was active in the Church sportsmen group, the golf tournament committee ,church choir as well as being a willing volunteer for many church functions. Sam was an avid golfer and bowler, loved listening to his jazz albums, and playing cards with friends and family. He was known for his warm smile, sense of humor ,positive attitude and wise advice.
In addition to Mary his loving wife of 70 years, Sam leaves behind his children, Patricia Apuzzo of Pittsburgh, PA, Dale Ziem and her husband David of Bethel and Vasil Chiacu and his wife Lori of Trumbull, grandchildren Adam Apuzzo , Jessica Butterbaugh and her husband Eric, Geena and Thomas Chiacu, Great-granddaughters Elena and Alice Butterbaugh as well as several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Monday at 11 am directly at St. Dimitrie Orthodox Church, 504 Sport Hill Rd., Easton with burial to follow in Lakeview Cemetery, Bridgeport with full Military Honors. Friends may call at the Church on Monday from 10 am until the time of services. -
